The gift of AGAIN
Hello Travellers,
I had a blog for about five years that I have since decommissioned and I always began with this greeting. Because we are traveling through space on this tiny blue dot together. And I feel like we are always silently waltzing beside each other through this journey we call life. And I find hearing about new journeys other in people’s live invigorates my own courage in pursing mine.
So, Hello my fellow travellers…
Let’s talk about the power of embracing again otherwise known as the necessary repetition in our human lives. Each day we commit a similar series of events: we awaken, we work, we eat, and we sleep. Some would call this is a state of boredom or “the grind.” I say it is a sign that you are still alive.
Being alive is the apex of goodness in my book as we have no real solid proof of what comes next or how long we have, but I know that my physical body, the people I love (which includes my furry companions), all the beauty of nature and life as I know it will end. So again means I’m still here. And no matter the severity of the current dumpster fire state of the world, I want as many Agains as possible. And my hope is to offer you this perspective for your consideration.
Because it is within Agains, where we meet our ability to make different choices. For example: We can not only eat whatever your preferred protein is for numerous meals, but there are many methods of preparation that create nuance of experience like smells, tastes, textures and who we create the meal with. Also, our ability to experience gratitude for sustenance is always an important again to consider in it’s value.
This same vantage point makes everything more interesting when it comes to our health: different forms of movement and all the ways you can tailor it, learning and testing different tools for mental hygiene, being in nature, learning how to vary water consumption, exploring creativity, creating a sleep routine, meeting new people, going new places or perhaps going to a place you have been many times, but taking a different path.
Agains lead to refinement. Agains lead to learning and growth that are the mechanisms of change. Slightly varying your Agains can help make two those things feel safe which is important as stagnation slowly kills the being in human. Agains may not be as exciting as the idea of a constant state of newness, but they are the familiar sweetness that many of us have lost our taste for.
I’d like to leave you with two things, a favorite quote of mine that I think speaks to the goodness of agains and a few action items. Taking action is what moves the needle Travellers.
“For most of life, nothing wonderful happens. If you don’t enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work and sitting down to a meal with family or friends, then the chances are that you’re not going to be very happy. If someone basis their happiness or unhappiness on major events like a great new job, huge amounts of money, a flawlessly happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person isn’t going to be happy much of the time. If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the yard, a drink or a nap, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.” ~Andy Rooney
ACTION ITEMS:
Notebook and pen exercise: Explore how do you feel about repetition, are you bored? Do you practice awareness within the activities you choose each day? How does the idea of repetition feel inside your body?
Take one daily repeated action and vary it for a week. For example: Change the sequence of events in your morning each day, just abit. Make a meal three different ways. Try new ideas to help you sleep better. Record how this makes you feel in your senses and body. Pay attention to your emotional response.
Go out in nature and be in a state of observation. Nature in my opinion is never bored with itself. It is in a state of awe and reverence and again is fully embraced.
I’ll be seeing you!
Amy
